Thinking about a DIY Roof Replacement? Here's what to consider before you get started!
At Top Shield Roofing, we know the appeal of a home improvement project. But safety is paramount, especially when it comes to your roof! This post isn't a substitute for professional help, but it offers a glimpse into the steps involved in replacing your roof with asphalt shingles.

Considering DIY? Here's a simplified overview:
Safety First! A low-slope roof (less than 6/12 pitch) is ideal for DIY. Steeper inclines are best left to pros with safety equipment.
Gear Up! Invest in a fall protection kit and proper footwear.
Favorable Weather Conditions: Dry, mild temperatures (between 50-80 degrees Fahrenheit) are best.
Clear Work Area: Ensure a stable ladder base and easy access around the house.
Feeling Prepared? Here's a simplified breakdown:
Tear Off Old Shingles: Dispose of them responsibly!
Repair Decking & Cut New Vents (if needed)
Install Drip Edge for a finished look & water protection
Ice & Water Barrier: May be required in your region
Lay Underlayment: We prefer Synthetic
Valley Flashing: For complex roofs with multiple slopes
Install Roof Vents
Start with Starter Shingles at the base
Lay Shingles Upward following manufacturer's instructions
Cap the Ridge with specialized shingles
Step & Dormer Flashing (if applicable) for additional protection
Clean Up & Seal Exposed Nails
Important Note: This is a simplified overview. Replacing your roof is a complex project.
